| Clarkson Valley is a small community located between Ellisville, Chesterfield and Ballwin. Many people don't even realize it's there, presuming as they drive through the area using Clarkson Road that they are in Chesterfield. This area features homes with large lots (the zoning requires homes to be built on lots that are at least 1 acre in size and many are 3-15 acres). The pride of the community is the Forest Hills Country Club which was home to the Ladies PGA tournament for 6 years. With a population of 2,675 when the 2000 Census was conducted, the median household income was $153,933 and the median home value was $414,400. Originally incorporated as a village in 1950, Clarkson Valley is now a Fourth Class City, governed by a Mayor and a Board of Aldermen. In addition, they have 2 paid staffers - the court clerk and the city clerk. Everything else is done by volunteers from their community, under the philosophy that "Less government is good government". The City is comprised of thirteen subdivisions; Crestview Middle School; Marquette High School; Forest Hills Country Club; Fru-Con Center; Alizadeh Orthodontics Building; First Church of Christian Scientist; and Ellisville United Methodist Church. One of the remarkable features of this community is that the municipality actually owns nothing. It leases space for it's city hall/administrative functions in one of the two office buildings within the city limits and the streets are either owned and maintained by the county or state or are private streets within the 13 subdivisions that make up the community. |
