| Welcome to Maryland Heights! Sections of Maryland Heights were originally called Mokeville after the local blacksmith, George Moke. In 1900, the name was changed to Castello after the Mayor of St. Ferdinand (now known as Florissant, MO), Charles Castello. The city was incorporated in 1985. The pride and joy of Maryland Heights is Creve Coeur Lake and the surrounding Park. The only truly natural lake in the State of Missouri, the 320 acre lake, it's "Dripping Springs Waterfall" and the surrounding 2,114 acre Creve Coeur Park are a favorite retreat for individuals wanting to go sailing, picnicing, walking trails and athletic fields. The park is so well known that Tennessee William's used it as a destination (along with the streetcar that use to take St Louisan's from University City to the park) in his play, "A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur". The city boast other fine parks as well, including the recently opened "Dogport" park, for dogs and their human companions. For the human companions, other entertainment arenas include the local casino, Westport Plaza and the outside concert venues at the UMB Bank Pavilion at Riverport and Maryland Heights fantastic RecPlex.
