| Bridgeton was initially founded in 1794 when the original 15 blocks were platted. The city received a legislative charter in 1843 from the State of Missouri, making it the oldest community in St Louis County. By 1950, the population had dropped to 276 residents, less than it's population when it was first created in 1794. To combat this, the municipality startd annexing nearby land until it grew to 17 square miles with 256 acres dedicated to parks and recreation. Currently it has a population of about 15,550 with a median income of $49,216 and a median home value of $109,900. The area use to have a much larger population, but the expansion of the St Louis/Lambert Internation Airport took away more than 2,000 homes and businesses. If you're looking for an example of life in the late 1800's check out the Payne-Gentry House located at 4211 FeeFee Road. It is the only historic private residence in Missouri that contains an accurate representation of a doctor's office from the 1800's.
