| The area of Wildwood, just a few years ago, was considered to be "too far out" for most St Louisans to live and make a daily commute into St Louis City to go to work. Now it's seen as one of the trendiest and best places to live in the US. Incorporated on September 1, 1995, it took over 5 years and a ruling by the Missouri Supreme Court before the the City of Wildwood came into being. Now it has over 33,000 (per the 2000 census) residents who still work diligently to ensure that their city is planned carefully, rather than allowed to grow haphazardly. Comprised of 67 square miles, Wildwood is the 3rd largest city in the State by geographic size (Kansas City and Springfield are larger). Of the 67 miles, 11 square miles are public parks and lands that are managed by the State or St Louis County. These include the very popular Babler State Park, Rockwoods Reservation and Range and Greensfelder County Park. This combination ensures that Wildwood maintains it's "rural" nature. Both the Rockwood and (Pacific) Meramec Valley School Districts care for the children of Wildwood. The median income in Wildwood in 2000 was $94,006. The Wildwood area is noted for steep wooded area along with farmland. The housing reflects the challenges of the landscape, and ranges from original farmhouses to sophisticated mansions. While many people have a tendency to call everything west of Chesterfield "Wildwood", there are many other small communities in the area such as Grover, Glencoe and St Albans that border the Wildwood area. Wildwood is considered to be a prestigious area in West St Louis County. The homes in the area range from apartment complexes to condos and villas to single family homes. The land in Wildwood is among the more valuable in the St Louis area, resulting in higher prices, but also greater amenities.
